Sublime Games

Welcome

Welcome to this, the first post in the development diary of a game called Last Lap.

Well that above little statement is not as true as it could have been. Thats because there was a previous version of this development diary available on the old sublime games website. When I recently over hauled the website, I decided to combined and condence the contents of the original development diary into the first few post in this new dev diary. With that in mind, let me retype that above line for your viewing pleasure;

Welcome to this, the first post in the new development diary of a game called last lap!.

Even though I have been developing this game for a number of years, upto now, the progress has been very slow and at other times totaly non-existant. This is largley down to a number of reasons, presonal life and intrest in other things then computer games. However, things are a little different now so along with the revamp of this website, I plan on spending a lot more time on this game.

Before I can inform you of where I am and what I am doing now, I feel its only right to at least give you you a little history on the game that I am working on.

History

Way back in the year of 1995 I produced my first game for the Amiga brand of computers. That game was called ‘Last Lap’, it was a cute little car racing game that fitted on a single floppy disk (less then 1mb in size) and sold for the tidy sum of five pounds. Player(s) could race round either a city or desert race track, compete against upto three computer controled cars. It bosted a few features, including a two player split screen, eight way scrolling and grand total of ten race tracks!. All very nice features for a total beginners effort back in the day!.

Heres are a few screen shots of that original game from back then.

Belive it or not, Last Lap was reviewed in a magazine called ‘Amiga Format’ (Issue 75). This was a popular magazine of the time for Amiga computers. It was released as a shareware game and was distrubuted by the many public domain companys that thrived at the time. As always, hinesight has since told me that this was not the wisest move!. Typical for shareware of the day, it would entail a full release of the game. It would then present a nag screen for the players to pay a small fee if they liked the game. Shareware of the day more or less relied (nay expected) that the general public was as honest as the day is long. Turns out that the general public is not all that honest.

Present

Well this now leads me upto today, I have always wanted to create an updated version of this game. Partly because I am intrested in seeing how much I have improved over all this time since I released the original and also because I would love to see if I can make a successful online business from doing the one thing I love to do; programming games!. I want to add new features to this game that I was unable put in the first time around, that I was unable to do because of the limitations of computer hardware of the day.

Since finishing the original Last Lap (my first public game), I have gone on to release a number of other titles, including in recent years Revenge of the mutant camels 2 and Dr Franken as published by Indigicon. Over all these years I have always maintained an intrest in playing games and the making of games. To this day I also continue to further my knowledge about the subject at every available chance (to the despare of my long suffering girlfriend – love yah babe xx!).

Future

This is going to be a short area as the vast amount of it is yet unknown!, I hope that what ever it is, it will have bags of fun and a undefinable addictive quality!.

Please check back for further updates.
